About Me

I am passionate about genealogy and committed to helping you discover and preserve your family's history. Every soul has a story to tell. Let's honor those who came before you and create a legacy for generations to come.

I became interested in my own ancestry about 15 years ago. Family legend was that my great great grandmother "Babcia" emigrated from Poland to America on the Carpathia and was there as it rescued survivors from the Titanic, so I set out to determine if this was true. I knew my mother would be excited to learn more, as Babcia had always been her dear angel and inspiration. I started researching, hopeful to discover which ship Babcia had taken on her journey. I wrote a letter to the Ellis Island Foundation requesting a search, detailing everything I knew about her that could serve as a clue. I will never forget the thrill of receiving that large manila envelope in the mail containing a photocopy of a ship manifest listing Babcia, her mother, and 6 siblings, documenting their arrival in the U.S.  Was she on the Carpathia? No, but the year was the same- 1912. I had solved a mystery. I felt such a sense of accomplishment, as if I was connecting with Babcia and somehow keeping a part of her alive- and my mother was thrilled. I had officially fallen in love with researching family history.

Genealogy has been an endeavor that has brought me great fulfillment and sometimes astonishment as I discover my ancestors' hardships, sacrifices, and triumphs. It's important to me that my two sons know who they are; part of this is knowing where they came from, the people who contributed to their genetic makeup. My goal is to help them connect their past to their present, so that they feel like a part of something greater than themselves. I would like to do the same for you and your family.

My objective is more than finding names, places, and dates. I strive to add historical context and personal details as I piece together the stories of those I research. I want you to be able to connect with your ancestors- to feel that they live on because you have refused to let their memory fade.

I decided to name my business 'Trading Stories with the Leaves' due to my fondness for the band Pearl Jam and their song "In My Tree", which is almost spiritual if you have the good fortune of hearing it.

My logo reflects a family tree, in which a bluebird resides. I chose the bluebird due to its symbolism as an angel who bears messages of hope and guidance. It is said that the angels sing their songs through the bluebird.

Perhaps we can learn more about your angels.

"Walking, I am listening to a deeper way. Suddenly all my ancestors are behind me.

Be still, they say. Watch and listen. You are the result of the love of thousands." --L.H..
